March was an insane month. A month like no other I think the world has experienced in these modern days. A new virus had spread throughout China starting in January and though it caused some worry, it didn't affect us until the virus came to the U.S. in March. The Cornoavirus, or Covid-19 spreads rapidly and can be severe for certain populations, mostly the elderly and those with underlying health conditions. Once it came to Utah, it only took a few cases for government leaders to start shutting things down. I'm not gonna lie, when they closed the schools, it was devastating for me. I really tried to keep it together, but the whole situation was so emotional. All of the unknowns of how long it would be (it ended up being very long, things are still crazy in July), if we would get sick, if our loved ones would get sick, what would happen to the economy, etc. were all more than I was prepared to handle. The kids had to do school from home. Barry worked from home. Church was canceled. Sports were canceled. Every event I had to delete off our calendar cut me just a little more each time. Oh, and did I mention the earthquake on March 18th? Just after all this started? Barry had left for work and I woke up to our bed shaking pretty violently just after 7:00 am. I was so confused because I'd never felt anything like it. I just sat there unable to do anything. Later I realized I probably should have gone and made sure the kids were safe, but I was in shock. Barry didn't feel it in the car and the kids mostly slept through it, but I felt anxious for weeks in bed thinking I felt more shaking (there were other aftershocks that I definitely felt). But we were all fine.
So the new normal became not going anywhere, not seeing anyone, and not knowing what the future would hold. Communities came together to try and make things better with car parades and scavenger hunts. Zoom calls happened all the stinkin' time (I was happy when we finally gave our kids' computers back to the school). We did things to stay entertained and I tried to help the kids adjust. I was just so sad for them for different reasons. Quinton missed a lot of fun 6th grade (last elementary year) activities. Sawyer had been doing so well socially in Kindergarten. Miles was actually going to nursery. Clara had just started young women's. Warren had just started primary activities and would be getting baptized soon. It was just hard to not have things play out the way we originally anticipated. I hope our kids look back at the quarantine as a time they can remember as positive. I really tried, but man, it was hard.
So here's the rest of our March pictures. Luckily I got my hair done just before all the salons closed. March had some warm days and some snowy ones. We went on walks and had church at home, including the sacrament. And mostly we just tried to entertain ourselves and stay sane.
