Barry's Hike with His Brothers

The first week of August Barry went on his yearly hike with his brothers to Iron Bog Lake near Arco. They hiked in and enjoyed a few days of camping and fishing. He went with his brothers Bryant and Charles and his nephew Jeran. Here are some pictures of their adventures:

Jenks Family Reunion

We had a lot of fun going up into the hills past Oakley for the Jenks reunion with Barry's brothers and sisters. We camped out for a few days and had a great time visiting with family. Quinton was a little grumpy for the first couple days, but he was loving it by the time we left.

Camping was fun, but very exhausting with two little ones.
There were lots of fun activities like a nature walk for the kids with musical instruments made out of things from nature, fishing, softball, chatting around the campfire, yummy food, a hike for the small kids, and a treasure hunt. We even had a celebrity show up in camp: Smokey Bear! Quinton was fascinated by him and kept pulling us by the finger to go with him to get a closer look. Barry's brother Joe and his wife Melissa planned it all and they did a great job!

Clara had quite a little fan club.

The kids did a musical parade with all of their instruments.

Quinton's Missing Hair

Last month Quinton got a haircut. Unfortunately, when Barry went to fix a spot at the end, he forgot to put the attachment back on leaving a little bald patch in front. So, we shaved it all off and had a bald boy for a while. Luckily it has mostly grown back now because I think it bothered me a lot more than it ever bothered Quinton. Needless to say, he wore a hat a lot of the time.

Clara even has more hair than her brother.

Quinton stole my hat and Clara's binky one day, somehow with this came a bit of attitude.

Quinton's cousin, Mackayla tried to make some hair out of play dough as a replacement.

Trip to the Zoo

Last month we went to the zoo with Jeni, Shari, and their kids. It was the first time Quinton had ever been and he really enjoyed looking at all the animals. He even made friends with a monkey who started sucking his thumb when he saw Quinton sucking his. Clara was mostly content to sleep that day.

Stormy Weather

There is a fierce storm going on outside right now. I got one picture of the lightning.
Here are some other fun pictures from this week.

Yesterday we went to Logan's 4th birthday party. Quinton had a ton of fun playing on the moon bounce, "fishing," playing, and eating treats. He was very worn out and sticky by the time we left. Thanks Logan and happy birthday!

Quinton loves rolling in and wrestling with clothes, so the other day I just let him go wild when I was folding laundry. He also enjoyed strutting around with my pink pajama pants.

Today Barry and I gave talks in our new ward. It went pretty well. Thanks to Mom, Trent, and Shari for holding our kids during sacrament meeting! Clara fell asleep on our Lovesac before church today. It was really cute. After church we made cookies and Quinton went right for the beater without me even taking it off the Kitchenaid. I guess he loves cookie dough as much as his mom.

Moving and Independence Day

We finally got ourselves settled in Shelley. We are liking it here and really enjoying having more space to live in. I still miss our little house in Pocatello sometimes because it will always be dear to our hearts as the place we started out together. Fortunately, I guess, we still own it and I can always go back to visit if I want.

The past few weeks we have been focused on unpacking and adjusting to life here. Barry got a fun summer job driving an ice cream truck. It's nice for him because it will give him a break before diving back into his last year of college. I have just been trying to keep track of our kids and get Clara sleeping through the night. She's getting better, but not all the way there yet. She is sitting up now and eating all sorts of food.

Quinton is getting to be such a little boy and not my baby anymore. At times he is fiercely independent and at others he clings to us for security (usually when he has to go to nursery.) He really loves his sister, although he is still learning how to be soft enough with her. I think they are going to be great friends once she can fight back!
We had a fun weekend celebrating the 4th. On Friday the 3rd, Barry took me fishing at Roberts Gravel Pond in his float tubes. I have to admit, it is pretty fun actually getting in the water and just drifting around. I even worked up the courage to bait my own hook for once. Maybe next time I'll work up to touching a creepy fish. We had fun catching a bunch of tiny bass.
After that we had a nice dinner with my parents and sisters and their families. Quinton had a blast playing with all of the bubbles.

Clara wasn't so sure about them and mostly enjoyed hanging out inside with her cousin Connor.

After dinner we took some family pictures before watching the Rigby fireworks. Quinton really liked the ones we lit off together and called the big ones in the sky "bubbles."

Quinton lent his thumb to grandpa to try with John and Triston close by.

*Life is Precious*
I endured the scariest moment of motherhood that day. When everyone was in the yard taking pictures, without realizing it, Quinton had wandered a few feet away. Suddenly Jeni said to me, "You do know the ditch has water in it, right? Where's Quinton?" I hadn't realized it was full and panic filled my heart as we rushed to find him. We had been standing close to the ditch, but the trees and shed kind of hid it. I ran to the front of my parents' shed to look for him when I heard Jeni scream, "He's in the water!" just as I turned the corner. I saw her jump in from the other side of the shed and I rushed in after her. She pulled Quinton out of the water and he was coughing. It was terrifying. Jeni later said that all she had seen was his little hand sticking out of the water. We are all so grateful to Heavenly Father for watching out for sweet little Quinton and inspiring Jeni to look for him. If it had been one or two seconds later, he probably would have been carried quickly through the tunnel of the ditch that goes under the road. As a mother I have been forced to think of what the alternative could have been if more time had passed, but thankfully Quinton was okay and we were all probably more shaken up than he was. It is a moment we will never forget and one I will always thank my Heavenly Father for. My children are so precious to me and I will cherish them forever and always.

Boys Will be Boys

Quinton loves playing with his cousin Triston when we go to Rigby. They're starting to get along really well now. They played for hours the other day in the water (note the soggy diaper) and even strutted their stuff shirtless.
